Every child possesses potential, but in many rural and low-income communities across Sri Lanka, economic hardship forces young minds out of the classroom long before they can realize their dreams. At Support Sri Lanka Foundation (UK Registered Charity No. 1111896), we believe that education is not a luxury—it is a fundamental human right and the most powerful engine for long-term social change.
The Reality on the Ground
In many remote villages, public schools lack basic physical resources. Children often attend classes without proper footwear, backpacks, or updated textbooks. For a family struggling to afford daily meals, purchasing school uniforms or paying for examination fees becomes an impossible hurdle. As a result, thousands of bright students drop out prematurely, perpetuating generational cycles of poverty.
Our Comprehensive Educational Support Model
We address these barriers holistically through a multi-tiered approach:
Complete School Start Kits: At the beginning of each academic term, we distribute comprehensive educational packages containing durable backpacks, complete sets of uniforms, shoes, exercise books, and stationery.
Student Scholarships: We provide direct financial grants to promising students from low-income families. These scholarships cover exam fees, specialized tutoring, and transport costs, enabling them to complete secondary and higher education.
Classroom Infrastructure Upgrades: Learning requires a safe and inspiring environment. We supply underfunded rural schools with essential furniture, blackboards/whiteboards, teaching aids, and basic digital learning equipment.
Safe Youth Transportation: Many rural children face dangerous, multi-kilometer walks to reach the nearest school. We coordinate and fund community-based transport initiatives to ensure students arrive safely and ready to learn.
